Histoire du domaine
The name La Conseillante first appeared in the 18th century, when Catherine Conseillan, a merchant from Libourne, acquired the property. She named the estate after the feminine form of her surname and undertook works that expanded the vineyard to 12 hectares. The Nicolas family purchased La Conseillante in 1871, through the brothers Louis and Nicolas Nicolas, founders of the wine merchant firm Nicolas Frères. Following their deaths, Louis Nicolas, Louis’s eldest son, took over the management of the estate. In particular, he oversaw drainage works, tackled the phylloxera crisis and, in 1900, helped found the Pomerol Wine Growers’ Association, of which he became the first president. The Héritiers Nicolas civil partnership was established in 1960. In 1971, Francis Nicolas and his cousin Bernard Nicolas became co-managers and commissioned the construction of a new wine cellar. Since 2003, Bertrand Nicolas and Jean-Valmy Nicolas, representing the fifth generation, have been running the family business. A fermentation room dedicated to plot-by-plot vinification was built in 2012; Marielle Cazaux now heads the estate and oversees the winemaking process.
