Histoire du domaine
The oldest records relating to Giscours date back to the 16th century. Between 1552 and 1571, Pierre de Lhomme, a wealthy cloth merchant from Bordeaux, developed the vineyard by planting vines on land that was then uncultivated; the first documented grape harvest took place in 1571. Jean-Pierre Pescatore acquired the estate in 1847 and hired Pierre Skawinski, who oversaw major work on the vineyard and the buildings. Château Giscours was classified as a third grand cru in the 1855 classification. Between 1875 and 1890, Édouard Cruse modernised the estate, commissioned the creation of the landscaped park and built the Suzanne farmhouse. After the Second World War, Nicolas Tari took over the estate and reorganised its 300 hectares of land. A wine produced from historic plots within the Haut-Médoc appellation was launched in 1992. In 1995, Éric Albada Jelgersma took over the Société d’Exploitation du Château Giscours and embarked on a restructuring of the vineyard and a renovation of the cellars. Following his death, his children Dennis, Derk and Valérie Albada Jelgersma took over in 2018, with Alexander van Beek as managing director. Didier Foret is technical director and Denis Uteau is cellar master.
