Clos Rougeard Les Poyeux 2008
Clos Rougeard Les Poyeux 2008 is a red wine from Saumur-Champigny in the Loire Valley, crafted by Domaine Clos Rougeard from Cabernet Franc. This single-vineyard cuvée comes from a plot of approximately 3 hectares located opposite the estate on a gently sloping knoll combining clay and well-draining wind-blown sands. Perfectly suited to Cabernet Franc, this terroir yields a wine focused on finesse, with aromas that may evoke floral notes and small red berries. The estate typically ages its wines for two years in barrels before extended bottle maturation in its tuffeau cellars.

Histoire du domaine
Le Clos Rougeard has been based in Chacé since 1664. Eight generations have succeeded one another at the helm of the estate, the most recent being the brothers Jean-Louis ‘Charly’ and Bernard ‘Nady’ Foucault. In the 1970s, the Foucault brothers committed the estate to a winemaking approach that prioritised organic farming. From the 1980s onwards, they developed a low-intervention winemaking approach and extended barrel ageing. Jean-Louis Foucault passed away in 2015. On 22 June 2017, the estate was acquired by Martin and Olivier Bouygues, through their family holding company SCDM. Following the takeover, Bernard Foucault supported the transition as a technical adviser. Cyril Chirouze was appointed operations director and estate manager with effect from November 2022, having previously taken over from Jacques-Antoine Toublanc as winemaker. He is now the estate’s designated manager. The vineyard now covers 15 hectares, comprising 13.5 hectares of red grape varieties and 1.5 hectares of Chenin Blanc.
Les Poyeux
Les Poyeux is a single-plot red Saumur-Champigny cuvée from a parcel located opposite the estate. Its terroir combines clay and well-draining wind-blown sands, which are particularly well suited to Cabernet Franc. Within the range, it stands out for an expression that favors finesse.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The name comes from the Les Poyeux plot from which the cuvée is produced.
- Style of the cuvée
- Fine and elegant profile, generally floral and marked by small red fruits, with a less concentrated expression than Le Bourg.
- Position within the range
- Major single-plot cuvée, finer and more elegant than Le Bourg, the estate's other great red single-plot wine.
