Daniel Rion et Fils
Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils was a family-run estate in Prémeaux-Prissey, in the Côte de Nuits, founded by Daniel Rion in 1955 with two hectares of vines in Vosne-Romanée. Its historic vineyard covered several villages in the Côte and Hautes-Côtes de Nuits; the estate ceased to exist under this name after the 2018 vintage, following a family reorganisation.
Histoire du domaine
Daniel Rion founded his estate in 1955 with two hectares of vines in Vosne-Romanée, which had been passed down through his family. The estate is based in Prémeaux-Prissey, south of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Daniel Rion gradually expanded the vineyard and began selling the estate’s wines directly from the 1978 vintage onwards. When he retired in 1995, his children Patrice, Christophe, Olivier and Pascale helped to carry on the family business. Patrice Rion, then winemaker and manager of the estate, set up his own business in 2000 to develop Domaine Michèle et Patrice Rion. Before ceasing to operate under its historic name, Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils cultivated around 17 to 18 hectares spread across several appellations in the Côte de Nuits and Hautes-Côtes de Nuits. The estate ceased production under the name Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils after the 2018 vintage; in particular, some of the vineyards were taken over by Domaine Jean-Charles Rion. The legal entity formerly known as Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils was subsequently renamed SCEV Jean-Charles Rion in 2022.
Les Beaux Monts
Les Beaux Monts is a climat officially authorized to bear the Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru designation in the commune of Vosne-Romanée. The product specification states that this climat includes the lieu-dit Les Beaux Monts as well as a part of the lieu-dit Les Hauts Beaux Monts. Descriptions covering the broader expanse of Les Beaux Monts indicate a southeast exposure, a hillside position lying approximately between 270 and 310 meters, and well-drained stony soils; however, these data are not isolated to the 2.42-hectare lieu-dit alone. A producer source locally reports shallow soil resting on Comblanchien limestone, but this observation concerns a specific plot and cannot be generalized to the entire site.

- Origin of the vineyard name
- According to the etymology cited by Maison Louis Latour, "Beaux" is believed to derive from the pre-Indo-European root BAL, meaning "height"; "Beaux Monts" thus forms a redundant toponym designating a height.
Histoire de la parcelle
The name Beaux Monts is said to already appear on a 16th-century map, according to Domaine Michel Noëllat. The parcel area conferring the right to the Premier Cru designation was approved by the INAO during the sessions of June 1 and 2, 1988. The AOC product specification explicitly distinguishes the Les Beaux Monts climat and the cadastral lieux-dits that comprise it.
