Domaine Rouget Echezeaux 1999
The 1999 Domaine Rouget Échezeaux is a red Burgundy wine originating from the Échezeaux parcel and classified as a Grand Cru de Bourgogne. Produced by Domaine Rouget, it is crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir. The Échezeaux vineyard is located in the commune of Flagey-Échezeaux, in the Côte de Nuits, and the appellation is reserved for Pinot Noir red wines. This 1999 vintage thus expresses an interpretation of a Burgundian grand cru driven by a single grape variety and an emblematic lieu-dit.

Domaine Rouget
The Emmanuel Rouget estate is based in Flagey-Échezeaux, in the Côte de Nuits. It cultivates plots located notably in Vosne-Romanée, Échezeaux, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Savigny-lès-Beaune, with a range extending from regional appellations to grands crus. Having been passed down from Henri Jayer to Emmanuel Rouget, the estate is now run by the Rouget family, with Nicolas in charge of the vineyards and Guillaume of the cellar.

Histoire du domaine
Originally trained as a tractor mechanic, Emmanuel Rouget joined Henri Jayer, to whom he is related, in 1976. He then worked in the latter’s vineyards and gradually learnt how to manage the vineyard and the winemaking process. At the same time, he worked as a sharecropper on family vineyards, notably in Échezeaux and Vosne-Romanée. In the mid-1980s, he set up his own estate and winery in Flagey-Échezeaux, and began marketing wines under his own name. From 1996 onwards, Henri Jayer gradually transferred his vineyards to him. When Henri Jayer retired in 2001, all of these vineyards, including the Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux Premier Cru, came under the control of Emmanuel Rouget. Nicolas Rouget officially joined the estate in 2008 and took charge of vineyard management. Guillaume Rouget, who trained in viticulture in Beaune, has been responsible for the cellar and winemaking since 2011.
Échezeaux (Vosne Romanée)
Échezeaux is a Grand Cru appellation physically delimited within the Côte de Nuits, located entirely within the commune of Flagey-Echézeaux, between Clos de Vougeot and the Premiers Crus of Vosne-Romanée. It brings together eleven climats and features more diverse topography and soils than the neighboring Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru. The vineyard ranges in altitude from 230 meters to just over 300 meters, with a slope reaching 13% mid-slope. Bajocian marls, locally covered with scree, gravel, red alluvium, and yellowish marls, form a complex mosaic.

Histoire de la parcelle
The winegrowing development of Échezeaux is associated with the monks of the Abbey of Cîteaux in the 12th and 13th centuries, within the same historical complex as Clos de Vougeot. The Échezeaux Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée was recognized by the decree of July 31, 1937, published on August 11, 1937.
