Histoire du domaine
The origins of Domaine Jacques Prieur date back to 24 February 1868, the date of the marriage in Bligny-lès-Beaune between Claude Duvergey and Marie Taboureau, both from families with links to winegrowing. Claude Duvergey first founded the trading house Duvergey-Taboureau, which specialised in wines and spirits. In 1879, he acquired the Herbeux estate in Meursault, which became the heart of the domaine, and then embarked on a policy of acquiring vineyards. Faced with phylloxera, he adopted American vines as a solution for replanting following the introduction of this remedy in 1886. In 1889, the estate expanded to include, notably, the Clos de Mazeray in Meursault, as well as vineyards in Volnay Santenots, Clos Vougeot and Chambolle-Musigny. In 1920, Claude Duvergey passed his holdings on to his grand-nephew, Jacques Prieur. Jacques Prieur founded the Paulée de Meursault with Count Jules Lafon in 1924. On the death of Marie Duvergey-Taboureau in 1935, he became the estate’s sole owner. He named the estate after himself in 1956; following his death in 1965 and that of his wife in 1974, the estate passed to his six children. In 1988, several French families, including the Labruyères, acquired a stake in the estate; the Labruyère family now runs the estate alongside the Prieur heirs. Nadine Gublin, the estate’s oenologist since 1990, has been in charge of technical management since 2009.
Musigny [Rouge]
Musigny is a Grand Cru appellation and a physically demarcated terroir in Chambolle-Musigny, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Located above Clos de Vougeot, between the Premier Cru Les Amoureuses and the Grand Cru Échezeaux, it includes the lieux-dits Les Musigny, Les Petits Musigny, and part of La Combe d’Orveau. The vineyard occupies a fairly steep limestone and rocky terrace, the southern part of which rises towards the Combe d’Orveau. The appellation permits red wines and, as a singularity in the Côte de Nuits, a small production of white wine.

- Origin of the vineyard name
- The BIVB links the name to a Musigny family active at the court of the Dukes of Burgundy in the 14th century; an INAO source also mentions a Gallo-Roman estate belonging to someone named Musinus.

Histoire de la parcelle
The reputation and demarcation of Musigny predate the AOC system: a judgment defining the cru dates from April 16, 1929. The Musigny Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée was initially recognized by the decree of September 11, 1936. The currently demarcated parcel area mentioned in the product specification was approved by the INAO during the sessions of June 1 and 2, 1988.
