Domain Georges Roumier Morey Saint Denis Clos La Bussiere 2009
The 2009 Domaine Georges Roumier Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos de la Bussière is a red Burgundy crafted from Pinot Noir. Coming from Clos de la Bussière, this premier cru is located in the southern part of the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation. This walled parcel, a former Cistercian clos, has been a monopoly of the estate since its inception. Spanning 2.5925 hectares, it rests on a rocky subsoil covered with iron-rich clays, a setting that sets this cuvée apart among the wines of Morey-Saint-Denis.

Histoire du domaine
The estate was founded in 1924 by Georges Roumier, following his marriage to Geneviève Quanquin, who came from a family that owned vineyards in Chambolle-Musigny. Georges Roumier then settled in the village and gradually developed the family estate in the Côte de Nuits. He was one of the winemakers who bottled their own wines on the estate, at a time when this practice was still relatively uncommon. His son Jean-Marie officially succeeded him in 1961. In the 1950s, the estate expanded to include vineyards in Bonnes-Mares and the Clos de la Bussière in Morey-Saint-Denis, a 2.59-hectare plot acquired in 1953. A plot of Corton-Charlemagne was added to the estate in 1968. Jean-Marie Roumier then acquired a plot of Musigny Grand Cru in 1978. Christophe Roumier, a graduate in oenology, joined his father in the early 1980s, and the entire harvest has been bottled at the estate since the 1983 vintage. Since Jean-Marie’s retirement in 1990, Christophe Roumier has managed the estate and overseen the winemaking. The estate has also strengthened its independence by purchasing vineyards previously farmed under lease or sharecropping arrangements, notably in Charmes-Chambertin and Ruchottes-Chambertin. Chemical fertilisers were phased out in 1988, followed by herbicides in 1989; however, the estate is not certified organic.
