Histoire du domaine
The estate takes its name from the abandoned hamlet of Montcalmès, situated on a plateau overlooking the Hérault valley, from which part of the paternal family originates. The family estate originally comprised 30 hectares of vineyards, the harvest from which was delivered to the cooperative winery. In 1998, Jean-Marie Pourtalié and his son Frédéric decided to set up their own winery in order to produce their own wine. The first red wine was produced in 1999, amounting to 5,000 bottles. Muriel Fabre, Frédéric Pourtalié’s sister, joined the estate in 2003. The first white wine was produced in 2004. The estate began the transition to organic farming in 2012. The entire production has been certified organic since the 2015 vintage. The estate is now run by Frédéric Pourtalié and Muriel Fabre, with Frédéric personally overseeing the winemaking process.
