Château Taillefer
Château Taillefer is a 12-hectare family property located on the southern part of the Pomerol plateau. Its vineyard, dominated by Merlot and complemented by Cabernet Franc, rests on silica and gravel soils over blue clay, rich in iron oxides from which the estate takes its name. Since 2013, Claire Moueix and her husband Cyril Basteau have managed the property in the continuity of five family generations.

Histoire du domaine
Château Taillefer appears as early as 1761 on the map of Guyenne drawn by the engineer-geographer Pierre de Belleyme at the request of Louis XV. The plots and buildings are then described with precision on the 1805 Napoleonic cadastral plan. After founding the wine merchant house Antoine Moueix & Fils in 1905, Antoine Moueix acquired Château Taillefer in 1923, making it the first wine estate purchased in Bordeaux by the Moueix family. The estate was successively passed down to his son Jean-Marie, his grandson Marcel, and then his great-grandson Bernard. In 2013, the management of Château Taillefer was entrusted to the fifth generation, represented by Claire Moueix and her husband Cyril Basteau, who are also responsible for Château Tauzinat l’Hermitage in Saint-Émilion. The name Taillefer is traditionally linked to the abundance of iron oxides in the soils, which old plows brought to the surface by "cutting the iron".
