Histoire du domaine
Château Pavie Macquin is named after Albert Macquin (1852–1911), an agricultural engineer and grandfather of the current owners. At the end of the 19th century, whilst phylloxera was ravaging the Bordeaux vineyards, he helped to promote the use of grafted vines in the Saint-Émilion region. As a champion of Vitis berlandieri, he produced over a million grafted vines in 1887 and developed a scientific monitoring system for the plots. He gradually brought together the plots that formed the basis of the Pavie Macquin estate. Following his death in 1911, the estate remained in the hands of his descendants; it is now owned by the Corre and Charpentier families. Nicolas Thienpont was appointed manager in 1994. His son, Cyrille Thienpont, now works alongside him in the management and technical aspects of the estate. Château Pavie Macquin is listed as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the Saint-Émilion classification approved in 2022.
