Histoire du domaine
The land history claimed by Château La Croix de Gay dates back to 1477, when the Barrauderis estate in Pomerol was granted to Mathelin and Michel Barraud, the presumed ancestors of the Raynaud-Lebreton family. The family subsequently became involved in local viticulture, as evidenced by the mention of Joseph Brugnet, a winegrower and ancestor of the family, in a parish register from 1772. Around 1900, Jean-Henri Angle reorganised the estate and developed the Château La Croix de Gay brand. He was also involved in founding the Pomerol winegrowers’ association. Noël Raynaud produced his first vintage at the estate in 1947 and ran the property alongside Geneviève Raynaud until 1997. Under her leadership, the château won four consecutive gold medals at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris for the vintages from 1977 to 1980. The estate joined the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux in 1983. Upon Noël Raynaud’s death in 1997, his daughter Chantal Raynaud-Lebreton, who had already been working alongside him for over ten years, took full charge of the estate. The technical data sheet for the 2022 vintage lists the Raynaud-Lebreton family as the owners and Chantal Raynaud-Lebreton as the manager; Axel Marchal is listed as a consultant.
