Histoire du domaine
The origins of Durfort-Vivens date back to the 14th century, when the Durfort de Duras family owned land in Margaux. A hunting lodge built on this land was converted into a wine-growing estate during the 17th century. In 1758, the property was sold to the Scottish wine merchant George Ainslie. His daughter married the Chevalier de Vivens; their son, the Viscount de Vivens, added his name to that of Durfort in 1824. The estate was classified as a Second Growth in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification. In 1937, it was acquired by the Société du Château Margaux, which was then linked to the Lurton family. Lucien Lurton bought the property in 1961. His son, Gonzague Lurton, took over the management in 1992 and is now the owner. The vineyard is now certified as organic and biodynamic; Léopold Valentin is the technical director and Jean-Jacques Hurteaud is the cellar master.
