Histoire du domaine
Joseph Krug founded the House of Krug in Reims in 1843, with the aim of producing a champagne every year without relying solely on the characteristics of a single harvest. In 1848, he recorded his principles of creation and blending in a personal notebook, which subsequently became a key part of the house’s legacy. His method was based, in particular, on close attention to individual plots and the ageing of reserve wines from different vintages. Six generations of the Krug family have since carried on this tradition. In the early 1970s, Rémi and Henri Krug acquired a vineyard in Mesnil-sur-Oger; the first vintage of Krug Clos du Mesnil was produced from the 1979 harvest. In 1976, the two brothers conceived the idea of a blended rosé champagne, the first version of which was launched seven years later. LVMH acquired the House of Krug in 1999. In 2011, Krug introduced Krug iD, a code that identifies the history and composition of a bottle. In 2024, the house opened a new winemaking facility in Ambonnay, named Joseph. Julie Cavil is the current cellar master at Krug.
Grande Cuvée 165ème Édition

It brings together 127 wines from 14 years, from 1990 to 2009, with reserve wines representing 31% of the final blend. This multi-year construction aims for a richness and breadth impossible to achieve with wines from a single harvest.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- "Grande Cuvée" refers to the fulfillment of Joseph Krug's dream to offer the best possible champagne every year, regardless of climatic variations; "165ème Édition" corresponds to the 165th recreation of this vision by the Maison.
- Cuvée creation year
- 2009
- Style of the cuvée

Histoire de la cuvée
Since the founding of Krug in 1843, the Maison has perpetuated Joseph Krug's project by recreating a new edition of Krug Grande Cuvée every year, independently of vintage variations. Crafted around the 2009 harvest, this edition constitutes the 165th documented recreation of this expression.
