Ryst Dupeyron
Ryst-Dupeyron is a historic house with links to Armagnac, founded in 1905 by Joseph Dupeyron and historically based in Condom, in the Gers. The company is also active in the wine and spirits trade from Bordeaux. The historic Armagnac division and its stocks were acquired by Raj Peter Bhakta in 2019, whilst the Ryst-Dupeyron website is now managed by Château Cugnac Trading-CCT, a company chaired by Caroline Cressend-Ryst.
Histoire du domaine
Before the company was founded, Henri Ryst supplied transatlantic liners departing from Cherbourg and, in particular, developed the trade in port and whisky. In 1905, Joseph Dupeyron, a distiller, founded Maison Ryst-Dupeyron in Gascony. The family business was then passed down through the Ryst-Dupeyron line for five generations. It developed a business specialising in the ageing and marketing of Armagnacs in Condom, as well as a wine and spirits trading business in Bordeaux. Bernard Domecq served as cellar master for several decades; the sources consulted still list him in this role in 2020, though his current status cannot be confirmed. In 2019, the entrepreneur Raj Peter Bhakta acquired the Armagnac division of Ryst-Dupeyron, comprising the brand and historic stocks; this portfolio is now associated with Bhakta Spirits and Château Bhakta in Condom. Château Cugnac Trading-CCT, chaired by Caroline Cressend-Ryst, currently maintains the Maison Ryst-Dupeyron website and operates a registered wine and spirits trading business. The available sources do not allow us to establish with sufficient certainty whether the Ryst-Dupeyron brand currently owns its own vineyard, nor to identify an annual production figure or the current cellar manager for the operation in question.
