Clos Rougeard Le Clos 2002
Clos Rougeard Le Clos 2002 is a red Saumur-Champigny wine from the Loire Valley, crafted by Domaine Clos Rougeard. This cuvée by the Foucault brothers is made from 100% Cabernet Franc. Le Clos comes from a blend of 15 clay-limestone parcels within the appellation; this parcel origin distinguishes an expression centered on the fruit of Cabernet Franc, with a typically floral and spicy profile for the cuvée.

Histoire du domaine
Le Clos Rougeard has been based in Chacé since 1664. Eight generations have succeeded one another at the helm of the estate, the most recent being the brothers Jean-Louis ‘Charly’ and Bernard ‘Nady’ Foucault. In the 1970s, the Foucault brothers committed the estate to a winemaking approach that prioritised organic farming. From the 1980s onwards, they developed a low-intervention winemaking approach and extended barrel ageing. Jean-Louis Foucault passed away in 2015. On 22 June 2017, the estate was acquired by Martin and Olivier Bouygues, through their family holding company SCDM. Following the takeover, Bernard Foucault supported the transition as a technical adviser. Cyril Chirouze was appointed operations director and estate manager with effect from November 2022, having previously taken over from Jacques-Antoine Toublanc as winemaker. He is now the estate’s designated manager. The vineyard now covers 15 hectares, comprising 13.5 hectares of red grape varieties and 1.5 hectares of Chenin Blanc.
Le Clos
Le Clos is a red Saumur-Champigny crafted from Cabernet Franc. The estate presents it as a blend of fifteen plots with clay-limestone soils. It thus stands out from the red cuvées originating from a single determined plot, Les Poyeux and Le Bourg.
- Style of the cuvée
- A Cabernet Franc favoring crisp fruit, with a generally floral and delicately spiced expression. The prolonged aging practiced by the estate seeks finesse and depth.
- Position within the range
- Blended red cuvée of the range, distinct from the single-plot selections Les Poyeux and Le Bourg.
