Clos Rougeard Le Bourg 2008 Bouteille (75cl) ELA
Clos Rougeard Le Bourg 2008 is a red Saumur-Champigny wine from the Loire Valley, produced by Domaine Clos Rougeard from Cabernet Franc. This single-plot cuvée originates from the heart of the village of Chacé, on shallow clay-silt soils with a limestone dominance. Derived from very old vines, it is distinguished by ripe, fleshy fruit and a dense, structured texture. The estate carries out vinification with a gentle approach and ages its wines for over two years in barrels before prolonged bottle aging in its tuffeau limestone cellars.

Histoire du domaine
Le Clos Rougeard has been based in Chacé since 1664. Eight generations have succeeded one another at the helm of the estate, the most recent being the brothers Jean-Louis ‘Charly’ and Bernard ‘Nady’ Foucault. In the 1970s, the Foucault brothers committed the estate to a winemaking approach that prioritised organic farming. From the 1980s onwards, they developed a low-intervention winemaking approach and extended barrel ageing. Jean-Louis Foucault passed away in 2015. On 22 June 2017, the estate was acquired by Martin and Olivier Bouygues, through their family holding company SCDM. Following the takeover, Bernard Foucault supported the transition as a technical adviser. Cyril Chirouze was appointed operations director and estate manager with effect from November 2022, having previously taken over from Jacques-Antoine Toublanc as winemaker. He is now the estate’s designated manager. The vineyard now covers 15 hectares, comprising 13.5 hectares of red grape varieties and 1.5 hectares of Chenin Blanc.
