Histoire du domaine
In 1986, estate agent Jean Phillips acquired a 57-acre vineyard on the eastern slope of Oakville. Initially, most of the harvest was sold to other producers in Napa Valley. Phillips, however, retained a small plot of Cabernet Sauvignon and commissioned Heidi Peterson Barrett to produce the estate’s first wine. The first Screaming Eagle vintage was produced in 1992 and released in 1995. The vineyard was replanted in the following years with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and underwent further replanting following the change of ownership. In 2006, Jean Phillips sold the estate to Charles Banks and Stanley Kroenke. Charles Banks sold his stake in 2009, leaving E. Stanley Kroenke as the sole owner. Andy Erickson oversaw winemaking in the initial period following the acquisition, before Nick Gislason, then an assistant, took over winemaking responsibilities from the 2011 vintage onwards. In 2006, the estate launched a second red blend, initially named ‘Second Flight’, which was renamed ‘The Flight’ from the 2015 vintage onwards.
