Clos Mogador
Clos Mogador is a family-run estate based in Gratallops, in the heart of the DOQ Priorat in Catalonia. Stemming from a project launched by René Barbier Ferrer in the late 1970s, the estate cultivates the slopes of llicorella—the region’s characteristic schist soil—on mixed-crop holdings. René Barbier Meyer oversees the fermentation process, whilst Christian Barbier Meyer manages the viticultural work.

Histoire du domaine
The history of Clos Mogador is intertwined with that of the Barbier family, whose ties to viticulture stretch from France to Catalonia. In 1880, León Barbier, an ancestor of René Barbier Ferrer, founded the company René Barbier S.A. in Tarragona following the arrival of phylloxera in France. In the 1940s, Léon and René Barbier began bottling wines from the Priorat region. The family brand, René Barbier, was subsequently acquired by Freixenet following the difficulties faced by the long-established company. In 1978, René Barbier Ferrer purchased his first mixed-crop estate in Gratallops, planted with vines, olive trees and almond trees, amongst other crops: this marked the origins of Clos Mogador. The official website states that the first Clos Mogador wine was produced in 1989. The estate then played a part in the revival of Priorat’s wine industry alongside other producers based in the region. Today, the next generation is in charge of the estate: René Barbier Meyer oversees the winemaking process and Christian Barbier Meyer manages operations in the vineyards. The estate practises regenerative and biodynamic viticulture based on mixed cropping, cover crops and minimal mechanical intervention.
Clos Mogador
Clos Mogador is the estate's eponymous red wine, crafted exclusively from grapes grown on the Gratallops property and classified as "Vi de Vinya Classificada" in DOQ Priorat. It primarily blends Grenache and Carignan with Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Long vinification processes and aging in large vessels aim for freshness, complexity, and the mineral expression of the schist terroir.
