Histoire du domaine
Seña was founded in 1995 as a joint venture between Eduardo Chadwick, of the family that owns Errázuriz, and the Californian producer Robert Mondavi. Their aim was to produce, in Chile’s Aconcagua Valley, a red blend inspired by Bordeaux grape varieties and featuring, in particular, Carménère. The first vintage, 1995, was released in 1997. The initial vintages were made using grapes from other Errázuriz vineyards, before Seña began relying entirely on its own grapes from 2004 onwards. The Seña vineyard, located in Ocoa, covers 42 hectares on hillsides with gravelly and rocky soils of volcanic and colluvial origin. It has been managed according to biodynamic principles since 2005. In the same year, following the acquisition of Robert Mondavi by Constellation Brands, the Chadwick family became the sole owners of Seña. The estate is now part of Viñedos Familia Chadwick, a family-owned group that also includes Viñedo Chadwick, Errázuriz, Arboleda and Caliterra. Francisco Baettig oversaw winemaking at Seña for many years, before Emily Faulconer succeeded him in 2023. As Faulconer left Viñedos Familia Chadwick in the spring of 2026, no sufficiently reliable source consulted has made it possible to identify her current successor with direct responsibility for winemaking at Seña.
