Histoire du domaine
Viña Concha y Toro was founded in 1883 by Melchor Concha y Toro, a Chilean politician, lawyer and entrepreneur, in the Pirque area, south of Santiago. At the outset of the project, he introduced grape varieties from Bordeaux, invested in winemaking equipment and had an underground cellar built. The company was incorporated as a public limited company in 1922, with its remit expanded to include wine production. Its shares were listed on the Santiago Stock Exchange from 1933, the year of its first export to the Netherlands. Eduardo Guilisasti Tagle joined the board of directors in 1957 and played a part in the company’s expansion during the second half of the 20th century. Viña Maipo was acquired in 1968. The company then embarked on a programme of land acquisitions and vine planting, before expanding its international operations, notably through the creation of Trivento in Argentina and the partnership formed with Baron Philippe de Rothschild for Almaviva. Today, Viña Concha y Toro S.A. is a listed company jointly controlled by the Guilisasti Gana and Larraín Santa María families; Marcelo Papa serves as technical director for Concha y Toro.
Almaviva
Almaviva is a Franco-Chilean red wine produced in Puente Alto, in the Maipo Valley, by the joint venture between Viña Concha y Toro and Baron Philippe de Rothschild.
