Histoire du domaine
Maison Delamain was founded in Jarnac in 1824, but its family history in the spirits trade dates back to the 18th century. In 1751, James Delamain returned to France and settled in Jarnac in 1759. Three years later, he went into partnership with his father-in-law, Jean-Isaac Ranson, in the brandy trade; the firm Ranson & Delamain then expanded its trade, particularly with Ireland. The current Delamain house boasts a family tradition spanning nine generations since its foundation in 1824. At the end of the 19th century, Jacques and Robert Delamain continued to run the business whilst pursuing their respective interests in ornithology and local history. The Bollinger Group acquired a stake in Delamain in 1994, prior to the firm’s integration into the group in 2017. Delamain & Cie’s company accounts show that Société Jacques Bollinger holds 68.52 per cent of its share capital. Charles Braastad, a direct descendant of James Delamain and a representative of the ninth generation, has been at the helm of the house since 2017. In March 2024, he succeeded Dominique Touteau as cellar master, after more than twenty-five years working at the house. Delamain selects and matures Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie and currently cultivates a 21-hectare vineyard in this cru.
Pale & Dry
Pale & Dry XO is a blend crafted exclusively from Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie. Matured in seasoned Limousin oak casks, with no added sugar or coloring, it aims for a clear, elegant expression with minimal oak influence. Gradual reduction seeks a balance between power and natural sweetness.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The name "Pale & Dry" refers to the translucent color of the cognac and its lightness, resulting in particular from the absence of added sugar and coloring and maturation in old casks.
- Cuvée creation year
- 1920
- Style of the cuvée
- An elegant, luminous, and fruity style, favoring the finesse of Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie and a discreet woody imprint. The overall profile seeks balance between power, natural sweetness, intensity, and persistence.
- Position within the range
- An iconic and emblematic cognac from Delamain, presented in a dedicated collection between Prologue and Pléiade.
Histoire de la cuvée
Created in 1920 by Jacques and Robert Delamain, Pale & Dry XO has become the emblematic expression of the Maison's style. For its centenary, cellar master Dominique Touteau offered a new interpretation while preserving its foundational principles of purity, lightness, and elegance.
